How to tell if a toupee sheds excessively?
Upon Receipt
- Gently brush with your hand
Run your palm from the roots to the tips to check if a lot of loose hair sticks to your hand.
- Gentle pull test
Gently pull a small bundle of hair outward:
-
- - A large clump comes out with one pull → severe shedding
- - Only a few strands fall out occasionally → normal loose hair
- Shake the toupee
Hold the wig cap and shake firmly; if many loose hairs fall onto the floor/table → severe shedding
How to clean and moisturize a wig:complete steps?
1. Preparation
- Water temperature: Cold or lukewarm (max 30°C) – high heat damages fibers and dries them out.
- Products: Use only toupee-specific shampoo + conditioner/hydrating spray (never regular human hair products).
- Tools: Wide-tooth comb, soft towel, toupee stand.
2. Washing Steps
- 1. Prep & Detangle
Gently comb from the ends to the roots to remove knots, preventing breakage during washing.
- 2. Gentle Cleansing
Fill a basin with cold/lukewarm water, add a small amount of toupee shampoo, and mix to create lather.
Soak the toupee for 5–10 minutes, then gently press to clean (do not rub or twist).
Rinse thoroughly with clean water until all foam is gone.
- 3. Deep Hydration (Critical Step)
Squeeze out excess water (do not wring), then apply toupee conditioner or hair mask, focusing on the mid-lengths and ends (avoid the base/root area).
Let it sit for 10–15 minutes to allow nutrients to penetrate.
Rinse with cold water to lock in moisture.
- 4. Pat Dry
Wrap the toupee in a soft towel and gently press to absorb water (do not rub or wring).
- 5. Air Dry
Place the toupee on a stand and reshape it with a comb.
Let it air dry in a well-ventilated area (avoid direct sunlight, hair dryers, or heat tools).
When half-dry, spritz 1–2 times with a toupee hydrating spray for extra moisture.
3. Daily Hydration Tips
- Quick refresh: Use a hydrating spray daily to keep it soft and shiny (no need to wash daily).
- Weekly deep treatment: Use a toupee hair mask once a week to boost long-lasting moisture.
- Avoid damage: Keep away from heat tools (flat irons, hot air), alcohol-based products, and heavy styling products (like hair gel/wax), which cause dryness.
- Proper storage: Keep it on a toupee stand when not in use to prevent tangling and dust buildup.
